Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

Projected Start Date: August 2018

The University of West Florida has is seeking a full-time graduate assistant with the athletic communications office.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a communications contact for multiple sports, with tasks including, but not limited to: writing press releases, game notes and feature stories; updating and maintaining the official athletics website; compiling statistics at athletic events; coordinating interviews and other requests with coaches and student-athletes; pitching story ideas to local and national media outlets; traveling with teams as appropriate
  • Video production and editing, including: recording video segments and game day highlights, featuring interviews with student-athletes and coaches
  • Managing the press box and/or scorer’s table at home events, including overseeing the game day staff
  • Performing assorted game day duties, such as public address announcing and scoreboard operation, as needed
  • Reporting scores and results to the Gulf South Conference, NCAA, coaches associations and other organizations
  • Nominating coaches and student-athletes for various awards
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, sports management or related field
  • At least one year of working experience in the college or professional sports communications fields
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Familiarity with Statcrew statistical software
  • Video editing experience

Graduate assistants will receive full tuition and fees and a 10-month stipend in the amount of $8,000 (includes matriculation waiver and out-of-state tuition where applicable). Graduate assistants must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the assistantship to maintain financial package. Refer to www.uwf.edu for more information on graduate study.
