Bloomsburg University, a comprehensive public university in northeastern Pennsylvania, invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Sports Information.  (AA#09-7-261).
Reporting to the associate vice president of Marketing and Communications (AVP), the Sports Information Director (SID) leads the public relations and marketing (sponsorships) efforts for Bloomsburg University's 21 NCAA D-II (NCAA D-I wrestling) athletic teams to the university's internal and external constituencies and ensures coordination with the university's marketing and communication initiatives.

Required: Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field; strong written and verbal communication skills; minimum four or more years of sports information experience; solid understanding of sports and sports statistics. Travel to events or activities as required.

Preferred: Master's degree in related field. Proficiency in Stat Crew statistical software; video technology and desktop publishing, specifically InDesign, PhotoShop and iMovie. Demonstrated skills in media relations or journalism. Preference for prior experience with athletic marketing and promotions. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

Prior to final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and criminal background check. Completing this search is contingent upon available funding.

The SID will:

Supervise a staff that includes a full-time assistant, a full-time intern, and an administrative assistant, as well as a staff of paid and volunteer students.

Develop, assign and place appropriate feature stories and hometown releases, both print and electronic, to ensure university name recognition and visibility locally, regionally, statewide and nationally. Serve as athletic media relations lead, coordinating communications between coaches and media. Write sports stories for the BU Magazine that is published three times per year.

Manage the university's presence on the web and social media with daily updates of the athletic website with an eye towards maintaining equitable distribution via Title IX standards. Produce videos that highlight personalities of BU student-athletes or highlight accomplishments of S-A's. Produce or supervise the production of graphics used on social media.

Arrange for statistical coverage of all university home athletic events, including any PSAC or NCAA Championship events. 

Manage the operation of the message centers for home athletic events and coordinate all pre-game and in-game entertainment (music/contests/promotions, involvement of corporate partners/sponsors) to further enhance the experience for fans. Develop strategies for increasing attendance at Bloomsburg University sporting events.

Responsible for securing corporate sponsorships and renewals of existing sponsorships and fulfilling those agreements in conjunction with an administrative assistant.  Work with the BU Foundation on items needed for the Huskies Athletic Association to help it meet its goals and mission.

Oversee and coordinate special recognition events for teams and individuals, including the Athletic Hall of Fame annual induction ceremony, serving as chair of the selection committee.

Develop, oversee and coordinate with administrative assistant the promotion of the school mascot (Roongo) to both the campus and local community.

Serve as the backup to the Director of Media Relations (DMR) in the event the DMR is not available in an emergency situation. Assist the AVP and the DMR with crisis communications in the event of campus-wide emergency.
