Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

Job Description: Pepperdine University, located in Malibu, California, and a member of the West Coast Conference, seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. This is a full-time, 12-month position. This position will work with Pepperdine’s baseball, women’s basketball and women’s soccer teams, among other sports.

Duties: Know, understand and comply with policies of Pepperdine University, the NCAA and various conference offices; develop and maintain good working relationships with local and sport-specific media outlets; prepare press releases and feature articles; distribute information to local, regional and national media; maintain and update the Pepperdine Athletics official website and various social media sites; serve as on-campus host for various intercollegiate athletics events and coordinate statistical and media coverage of those events; maintain athletic records, statistical files and photographic archives for assigned sports; work with the Director of Athletic Communications to coordinate the hiring and supervision of stat crews and broadcast talent for all competitions where these services are required; perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Communications or the Director of Athletics; uphold the University mission through work performed.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or equivalent subject; an equivalent combination of education and experience in an NCAA Division I Sports Information Office can be substituted in lieu of degree; minimum of one year of experience working in a college Athletic Communications/Sports Information office as a full-time staff member, intern or graduate assistant; experience using common office computer applications including Microsoft Office and web browser applications; advanced knowledge of statistical (Statcrew/The Automated Scorebook) and design (Adobe InDesign and Photoshop) software; experience working with website editing programs such as Netitor (CBS College Sports); experience using social media and video in promoting athletics; previous experience working with baseball basketball and/or soccer teams in an athletic communications capacity; demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated reliability; ability to perform under pressure of deadlines; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; ability to work effectively with external constituents; ability to communicate and work effectively with internal constituents, particularly senior staff, coaching staff and other appropriate University personnel; ability to work both independently and as a team member; results-oriented; self-starter; appreciation of and commitment to further the mission, values and goals of Pepperdine University.
