Associate Director of Athletic Communications

The Associate Director will serve as the primary media contact for at least three varsity sports, including at least one major sport, with travel involved as appropriate; oversee media coordination of The Penn Relays, which annually welcomes more than 400 media members from across the world; serve as primary designer and editor of external publications including PennSport—the department’s quarterly magazine—Franklin Field Illustrated (football game-day program), Palestra Illustrated (basketball game-day programs), football and basketball yearbooks; manage elements of social media output, including a heavy focus on graphic design, for Penn Athletics and team-related accounts for Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.; help supervise two full-time interns and one limited-service intern, and manage all of the office’s work-study staff; oversee game-day operations related to statistical and media activities for sports; provide support for Penn’s responsive web site (supported by Sidearm) and mobile platforms; support inter-office departmental needs including, but not limited to, the Penn Sports Network/Ivy League Network, marketing, development, Penn Quakers Sports Properties (JMI Sports), and facilities/operations.

A Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in Communications or journalism; minimum 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior sports information experience preferred. Computer knowledge with desktop publishing and in-game statistics mandatory; strong grasp of AP style necessary for quality control of all publications. Knowledge of NCAA/Ivy League policies and procedures. Position requires frequent travel and willingness to work evenings/weekends/holidays as necessary. Valid driver’s license required.
