Women’s Basketball Coaches Association
Communications Intern

The WBCA is accepting applications for its 2018 Communications Internship. This is a six-month paid internship, which begins Wednesday, January 3, 2018, and ending on Friday, June 29, 2018. The intern will be paid a monthly stipend of $1,500 before taxes. The WBCA office is in Lilburn, Georgia, a northeast Atlanta suburb. Relocation to the area for the length of the internship is required. The position reports to the Director of Communications.

Assist the director of communications with duties related to media relations, oversight of the WBCA website, the NCAA Division I and/or NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Polls, the WBCA Convention, and other assignments deemed appropriate by the director of communications and/or senior management. Some manual labor, lifting, travel and weekends are required. 

Website/Media Relations
  • Write, proofread and/or edit blog entries and other articles for, the association’s official website, and e-publications.
  • Assist with preparing and distributing approximately 36 press releases and posting them to the website.
  • Assist with maintaining sports information director and media contact lists in the database for outreach.
Convention (March 28-April 1, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio)
  • Assist with uploading content to the convention app, layout of the convention pocket guide, preparation and setup of convention signage, and awards certificates.
  • Assist with all onsite set-up and media responsibilities for WBCA events.
  • Gather bios and photos as needed for news releases announcing award winners, convention app, convention pocket guide, convention signage and multimedia presentations.
  • Assist with onsite convention updates for the website.
Coaches’ Polls
  • Assist staff with the administration of the WBCA Top 25 Coaches’ Polls in NCAA Divisions I and II.
  • Receive telephone calls in a professional manner. Handle calls if possible and forward detailed messages for other calls.
  • Process telephone requests for pertinent information.
  • Maintain informative and accurate records as well as an organized filing system for designated areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with the manager of digital media and manager of marketing communication on story ideas for the website blog and posts for digital media platforms.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by senior management, the director of communications, or both.
  • Work the required three (3) Saturdays as designated by the director of events.   

Technical Skills
  • Exceptional written communications skills.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e., Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Some understanding of website maintenance (working in a CMS) and HTML.
  • Attention to detail, including experience in proofreading/editing other people’s writing.
