Assistant Athletics Communications Director

Northern Illinois University is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletics Communications Director (Athletics Media Coordinator).

The Assistant Athletics Communications Director uses print, broadcast, digital, social media and facilitates coverage by external media entities, to promote NIU Intercollegiate Athletics programs and events to the general public, prospective student-athletes, fans and alumni.

This position is responsible for producing relevant original content via written, audio/visual (audio, video and graphic) and short form (social media) to promote NIU Athletics student-athletes, programs, teams, coaches, individual games and athletics events (home and away) on athletics’ internal vehicles and to university and external media. The Athletics Media Coordinator must exhibit the highest level of professional standards for news releases, publications, and other internal and external public relations vehicles to reflect the integrity, image and mission of the institution. The successful candidate will serve as the primary athletic communications contact for several of NIU’s intercollegiate athletic programs and as a primary editor for Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Communications Office.

This is a full-time, 12-month position with full benefits.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field. Candidates must possess advanced writing and editorial skills, as well as a broad-based knowledge of Division I Athletics and NCAA regulations. Demonstrated experience working with or supplying information to athletic-based media is required. Advanced computer skills and familiarity with a variety of software applications, including StatCrew statistical packages, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, are required. Strong preference given to candidates with experience working in a Division I Athletics Communications Office.
