Job Description:
Responsible for assisting with all aspects of media and sports information relating to the college's 15 intercollegiate sports: Men's & Women's Cross Country, Football, Men's & Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, Men's Basketball, Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's & Women's Rowing, Baseball, Men's & Women's Lacrosse, & Co-Ed Dinghy & Offshore Sailing teams. The Assistant Sports Information Director is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by SUNY Maritime College, all sports affiliated conferences and the NCAA. The job entails regular office hours during the week as well as nights and weekends as needed.

Directly Supervises: Interns & Game-Day Staff

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Writing and editing press releases, and game-day programs
  • Reporting results to local and regional media
  • Compiling statistics and records using StatCrew/the Automated Scorebook
  • Updating the College's athletics website
  • Develop the use of new media platforms and technology to promote the athletic department
  • Broaden current social media platforms and strategies for the department, while creating a larger presence within the social media
  • Training and overseeing student interns
  • Assist in the set-up and break down of events
  • Assist in coordination of special athletic events, including but not limited to the Athletics Honors Banquet, as well as other events and projects assigned by the Sports Information Director

Athletic Department/Campus Administrative Support:
  • Fundraising activities when applicable
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings for part-time employees
  • Completion of Campus Security Authority Training, HR Module Training, Van Driver Certification, NCAA Exam
  • All other duties assigned by the Athletic Director

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Sports Management or related degree
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years in Sports Information/Athletic Media Relations Field
  • General journalism experience
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills/knowledge of AP Style
  • StatCrew/The Automated Scorebook Statistical Software Programs, Microsoft Office Skills: Word, Excel, Power Point

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Communications, Sports Management, or related degree
  • SIDEARM Sport Content Management System Skills
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign/Photoshop
  • Video Editing Skills
  • Basic Photographic Skills

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: This position is a college year (10 month) part-time UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $12,000 - $14,000 annually. Review of applications will commence immediately and conclude when position is filled.

Special Notes: FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
