Assistant Sports Information Director

Position Description
Texas State University is currently seeking a qualified Assistant Sports Information Director (Graphic Artist I)  to help with the overall operation of the Sports Information Department in the coverage of 16 NCAA Division I teams. Texas State is an NCAA Division I (FBS) institution and a member of the Sun Belt Conference. It is located in San Marcos, Texas, a city along Interstate 35 between Austin and San Antonio.

The Assistant Sports Information Director (Graphic Artist I) position is responsible for producing compelling sport-related publications, press releases and creative content for mass media distribution, various social media platforms and video interviews. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, forward-thinking team player who understands communications technologies and has previous working experience in athletic communications, graphic design, layout, and social media content generation.

They also serve as a media relations contact for their assigned sports, which will be based on the skill set and experience of the preferred candidate. Experience working with football, women’s basketball and softball is a plus.

The Assistant SID will also produce statistics required by the Sun Belt Conference and NCAA, maintain historical records and maintain sport historical files and develop a photo/video library of teams and personnel. Travel with teams may be required, as well as working at events on nights and weekends.

Qualifications:
Skilled in writing clear, concise press releases and feature stories for distribution to media and other constituents. Must be skilled in working with others to develop and maintain relationships and contacts. Knowledge of nuances of intercollegiate athletics as well as being able to work at events on nights and weekends. A bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or a related field is preferred. Additional consideration will be given to those candidates who possess a Master’s degree. Experience in working in athletic communications is strongly preferred. Candidates should be proficient in Adobe Creative Suites software and in-game statistical software (Stat Crew and Automated Scorebook). Knowledge in producing broadcast-caliber interviews using Adobe Premiere is a plus.

Additionally, the candidate must be able to meet deadlines and be able to adhere to the requirements of the NCAA, Sun Belt Conference and the mission of Texas State University.
