Associate Media Relations Director

The University of South Carolina is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Media Relations Director. The successful candidate will serve as the primary media contact for baseball and as a secondary contact with football. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Promote the assigned sports through traditional media relations means, including press releases, notes, previews, and recaps, using Adobe InDesign desktop publishing software.
  • Promote the assigned sports through social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using graphics developed though Photoshop.
  • Provide daily sports media services and provide support for coaching staffs of the assigned sports.
  • Serve as the baseball and football statistician, historian and photo archivist.
  • Handle credential requests for both football and baseball.
  • Work closely with other departments in developing an overall content management strategy for the assigned sports.
  • Maintain and upkeep the assigned sports on the official website of Gamecock Athletics, GamecocksOnline.com.
  • Coordinate the publicity efforts to direct media attention toward student-athletes and coaches being considered or nominated for special awards or recognition.
  • Supervise the press box operations for the assigned sports. Serve as the official scorer for baseball and football home games. Ensure that an adequate staff of student-assistant workers are assigned specific roles and are available to assist with media coverage of the home events.
  • Report statistics and award nominations to the SEC and NCAA.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with local, regional and national media representatives.
  • Hire photographers to adequately cover the scheduled events.
 
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field. A minimum of four years full-time collegiate or professional sports information, media relations or public relations experience preferred; Candidates must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, extensive game-day management experience and well as proficiency in Statcrew for baseball and football, InDesign, PhotoShop and social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Ability to shoot/edit video a plus. Applicants should possess a sound knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to athletic communications along with NCAA approved statistical procedures for baseball and football. Must be able to work nights and weekends and travel with assigned sports.

This is a full-time, professional position that includes a state benefits package. Salary is commensurate with experience.
