Sports Information Director

Position Accountable To: Director of Athletics through the Vice-President of Institutional Growth and Student Engagement.

General Summary
Serve as the primary contact for all public and media relations associated with the CMU athletic department. Responsible for the promotion of CMU Athletics through the daily updating of the athletics website; writing and distributing athletics press releases, including game recaps; maintaining official CMU Athletics Facebook and Twitter accounts; and managing home contests, including official statistics, announcements, photos, and game programs.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • 35%: Updating and maintaining CMU athletics website (schedules/results, rosters, photo galleries, etc.)
  • 20%: Writing, distributing, and posting all athletics press releases to website
  • 20%: Designing and printing all athletics publications (game programs, season prospectuses, posters, brochures, etc.)
  • 15%: Maintaining and reporting official statistics
  • 05%: Coordinating athletics photos, some photography
  • 05%: Other assigned duties.

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises a staff of 2 student workers in both office and game-day settings.

Education and Experience Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, sports management, or related field. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects in order to complete them all efficiently and on time.  Knowledge and/or background in athletics, including statistical record keeping a plus. Excellent computer skills desirable.

Physical Requirements
Some lifting up to 20 lbs. necessary.

Other Skills and Abilities
Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Experience with Dakstats and web page design preferred. Understanding of and open-mindedness to new technologies.

Other Information and Attributes
Regularly requires evening and weekend work.
